ADAPTIVE SKIING EXCHANGE WINS SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Washington, D.C. (July 30, 2024)– Aspen Sister Cities has won the Sister Cities International 2024 Annual Award for Innovation in Business, Trade and ProfessionalExchange for a city with a population of less than 25,000.

Since 1962, the Sister Cities International (SCI) Annual Awards competition recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding sister city programs from around the world that excel at promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. Aspen Sister Cities is partnered with San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. Their program conducts exchanges of professional and volunteer adaptive ski instructors. This exchange benefits participants with cognitive and/or physical disabilities by providing enriching social interaction and quality time outdoors. Aspen Sister Cities work in their community and abroad over the last year is a shining example of sister cities’ people-to-people mission. Sister Cities International’s (SCI) Annual Awards recognize excellence in overall programming and highlight key innovations in arts and culture; humanitarian assistance; business, trade, and professional exchange; and youth and education. Awards are also given to a Volunteer of the Year and a Youth Leader who demonstrate exceptional efforts to advance peace through citizen diplomacy. This year, Sister Cities International honored all award winners virtually and in-person during its Annual Business Meeting on July 17, 2024, in Tacoma, Washington. The Annual Business Meeting joined prominent guests and community leaders from around the world with Sister Cities International members to announce the 2024 Annual
Award winners, celebrate the sister city network, and discuss the forward path for citizen diplomacy in sister city partnerships.
